Our Story
On a sailing ship, the mainstay is the rope that holds the mainmast upright. It is the one piece of rigging everything else depends on. That is the job we chose for ourselves: to be the supplier the local shop depends on, the one who never lets you run out of the basics.
Mainstay Supply Co. was founded in Wellington by three South Africans who believe the spaza shop and the small independent retailer are the backbone of their communities, and that they deserve a wholesaler who treats them that way: delivery to the door, honest prices, stock that arrives when we said it would, and paperwork done properly.

The founders
Three people, three promises to the communities we serve.
The one who knows your shop. Years on these roads, in wholesale sales and delivery across the Western Cape. Behind the wheel and behind the relationship: planning the routes so your town gets a fixed day, loading the truck so your order is complete, and being the face you deal with rather than a call centre. If your delivery is early, late or short, you speak to the same person every week, and they probably already know your shop.
The one who keeps the promise honest. Anyone can promise a delivery day. Keeping it takes systems: WhatsApp ordering that actually works, a weekly price list you can plan around, stock buying that keeps the basics on the truck, and invoicing that is right the first time. The work here is invisible when it goes well, which is the point.
The one who plays the long game. Has built and financed a business from nothing before, and is doing it again here, on the view that Mainstay only grows if the shops on its routes grow first. Practical support for shop owners: help understanding funding and formalisation, credit that grows as your shop does, a widening range as more shops in your area come on board… because a stocked local shop keeps money, jobs and food in the town it serves.
